Jim McKay received his national acclaim during the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich, Germany when there was the terrorist kidnappings. The Black September terrorist group kidnapped Israeli athletes at the Olympic village. McKay was on the front line of reporting the event to America as 11 Israeli athletes were killed.
“They’re all gone,” McKay said.
Jim McKay hosted the popular ABC’s “Wide World of Sports” for over 40 years and won several awards. McKay was the first sportscaster to win an Emmy. He won 12.
